General questions

Off topics questions

When is my next check due ?
This all depends on who you are. If you are a landlord or tenant, you are required (By law) to have a gas safety inspection carried out annually.
Commercial premise and businesses should ensure a safe working environment for the occupants and it would be expected to have a gas safety inspection completed annually to ensure this duty of care is maintained.
There are certain scenarios (Like regulation 36a) which may allow this period of inspection to be somewhat flexible.
Do you offer gas safety inspections (checks) ?
No. But our members do and you can find a member here who may be able to assist with your inspection needs.
Are you Gas Safe Registered ?
We are not a Gas Safe Registered business as we do not undertake any gas work, we provide compliancy to Gas Safe Registered businesses.
All of our inspecting engineers are fully qualified and registered members of the Gas Safe Register in their own right to allow them to complete the inspection.
Can I get a copy of a record issued by you ?
No, for the purposes of privacy protection we do not hold any personal data about you or your gas installation - You will need to contact the issuing company/engineer to get a copy of a document.
Can I get a copy of an inspection report you conducted ?
No, for the purposes of privacy protection we do not hold any personal data about you or your gas installation - You will need to contact the issuing company/engineer to get a copy of a document. Inspections that we conduct on site will never contain any personally identifiable data.
How much do you charge for a gas safety inspection (check) ?
We don't charge anything. Pricing is set by our members as they conduct the actual inspection. We charge a fee to manage and maintain compliance for the inspecting engineer. All our services to consumers are free and are funded by our registered members fees.

Documentation

What does an ackronym mean on my documentation ?
Engineers and businesses may use short hand to express or identify an appliance or defect within an installation. A full list of common abbreviations used by us and the industry in general can be found here, however if the ackronym is not on the list, you may need to contact the business which conducted the inspection.
My document says "Safe to Use = NO" - What does it mean ?
Gas engineers follow strict regulations and will define an appliance or installation as either Safe to Use = Yes or Safe to Use = No.
Any installation that is not safe to use should not be used until the issue(s) identified has been rectified. Engineers are required to use their own judgement when applying the regulations and interpreting what is safe or not and Safe to Use results can often be different from different engineers and registered businesses.
There is a spelling mistake, how do I correct it ?
You need to contact the issuing business or engineer to correct the issue. Unfortunately engineers are human too and occaisionally we do see errors.
Businesses cannot alter any information within the test data field without issuing a new certificate. Likewise corrections to addresses, may not always be possible.
How do I access a document that has been issued ?
Once we have issued the documentation, we will send a copy of the document to the requesting business for their records. We do not have access to or hold a copy of any documentation.
You should contact the registered business that conducted the inspection.
I think the document may have been tampered with and possibly been edited ?
You can validate a document issued by us here. If a document fails to vaidate, we ask you to contact us with a copy of the document that you have been sent.
If a document has been tampered with, we will let you know and give you the correct advice going forward. We may also start legal proceedings against any person who attempts to tamper with documentation issued by ourselves where we can identify the tampering party.
How long does it take to receive a document once an inspection has been conducted ?
Our documents are issued instantly. However it may take time for the engineer to input the required information and then get it to you. Our members sign up to a code of conduct to ensure all documentation is issued to the correct parties within a reasonable time.
Domestic landlords are required to provide a copy of a gas safety inspection report within 14 days of the inspection date, so it is imperative that registered businesses do this in a timely manner.
What format are your documents in ?
All of our documents are issued in Portable Document Format (Commonly known as PDF) and can be accessed by a wide range of devices.
Do you offer paper format documents ?
No, not on request. Registered businesses can request at the time of generation that we send a hard-copy out to themselves or to an alternate address defined within the inspection package.
Hard copies are sent out next day, via RoyalMail 1st class and will be a laminated, A4 document.

Legal duties

The legal stuff

When does a document expire ?
It does not expire. A record of inspection is valid, technically forever. An issued record simply provides evidence that a set of tests has been completed.
How long should I keep a copy of my document ?
Landlords and tenants should keep a copy of their document for at least 2 subsequent inspections have been carried out, or 2 years (Whichever is the longer).
Registered businesses should hold a copy for at least 5 years to ensure compliancy.
